How much does it cost to install artificial grass?

It’s not easy to find out exactly how much artificial grass will cost you online because it depends on the quality of the grass and the installation price, which varies from company to company.

Usually an installation by an experienced, professional team will cost between £50 and £80 per square metre.

An artificial grass lawn can be more cost effective than a real lawn over the long term when you factor in watering, feeding, lawnmowers, and re-seeding or re-turfing, not to mention the time you save on maintenance and upkeep.

To get a better idea of our pricing at Artificial Grass Services you can use our artificial grass cost calculator.

Why does the cost of artificial grass differ between companies?

Costs vary between companies for a variety of reasons, from companies being VAT registered, the company being insured, franchise fees that have to be paid and differing operating costs such as paying office staff. Two men in a van will have much lower overheads versus a company but may not offer the same peace of mind that they offer a warranty and use quality materials that will last.

Unfortunately we have completed numerous repairs caused by other companies either lacking knowledge or looking to maximise profits by not putting in an adequate sub base.

We guarantee to beat any like for like quote. We can do this as we import grass directly from the manufacturer, have preferential pricing from merchants. As we have completed thousands of projects we work quickly, minimising labour costs without compromising on quality, when you have done anything thousands of times you get good at it.

So, How Much Does Artificial Lawn Cost?

There are many types of artificial grass available with a range of costs; but regardless of which option you choose, it is important to make an informed decision before committing to the change. We've broken down all the costs involved in buying and installing artificial lawns into the following sections:

Broadly speaking, the cost of buying and installing artificial grass for your lawn is approximately £50-80 per m2 including VAT but this heavily depends on the type of lawn you choose. For example, a 30m2 lawn installation of artificial grass would start from £1500 largely depending on access to the area, the current substrate and the amount of waste you would get from the artificial grass.

As a rule of thumb, you get a better price per square metre for larger artificial grass installations.

Here’s an example for our installation pricing based on a 30m2 installation:

  • Waste removal £220

  • Type 1 £120

  • Granite dust £120

  • Teram - £120

  • Fixings - £100

  • Artificial grass - £600

  • Labour - £440

Here's what you will need:

Equipment used - turf cutter or digger, wheelbarrows, shovels, hammers, fixing nails, saws, silicone guns, joining tape, artificial grass adhesive, knives, blades and of course brushes and hose for the tidy up.

What's more expensive than expensive artificial grass? Cheap artificial grass.

We advise against going for the cheapest option when choosing your artificial grass. A more expensive artificial grass may seem to be less cost-effective, this is only in the short-term. A more expensive artificial grass that is of a higher quality will need less maintenance and will last much longer, costing you less over time.

What is the Cheapest Artificial Grass?

You’ll be able to find very cheap artificial grass to buy online and in large retailers and supermarkets, however, this grass is often very low quality and not designed to last.

We only install high quality artificial grass that offers real value for money as it will remain looking great for many years, standing up to heavy use. The cheapest grass we offer is Bella 32, which starts from £15 per square metre.

Is Artificial Grass Worth The Initial Cost?

Although artificial grass comes with an initial cost there are many benefits that come with having an artificial lawn:

  • You will spend less time on garden maintenance, allowing you to spend sunny days enjoying your garden instead of mowing the lawn.

  • A great looking lawn all year round. You can forget about bald patches or dry discoloured grass, an artificial lawn stays looking its best.

  • It’s a safe and durable surface for children to play on. Your lawn will no longer look worn out and battered after a long summer of children playing.

  • It’s a pet-friendly choice. Your dog can enjoy your garden too, exercising without ruining the look of the garden or digging holes, meaning no muddy paws in the house.
