Myths About Artificial Grass

In this post we’re talking about some common myths centring around artificial grass. Don’t let these myths hold you back and stop you from investing in this versatile garden surface. If natural grass is costing too much in terms of daily maintenance and energy bills, then read on to find out how artificial grass could be the answer.

Expensive

Well, yes there’s an initial investment - but it can be extremely cost-effective over the long term once it’s installed. The price can vary, but consider the cost of grass feed, pesticides and herbicides, water and lawn mowers, and over a lifetime, artificial grass works out a lot cheaper. It has a 15-year life expectancy, so imagine how much you’d save over that time in daily maintenance.

Unsuitable For Pets

Your pets will love it, and in terms of one of the biggest myths of all when it comes to artificial grass, it’s extremely compatible with most pets. Artificial turf is extremely durable and hardwearing, and all solids can be removed and disposed of sustainably,  with liquids sinking through to the permeable surface beneath the grass. If your pets suffer from allergies as they often do, then artificial grass is a great answer to this, because they can play out without the danger of a reaction to grass pollen. Artificial grass doesn’t stain from urine - and the surface is tough yet soft enough for their paws to play on.

Looks Fake

It may have looked this way back in the day when it was first created. However, there have been great advances in the manufacture of artificial grass and it now looks and feels like the real thing. There are also lots of different types of artificial grass depending on the type that’s suitable for your garden. Different gardens require different fibres, lengths etc. And here at Artificial Grass Service, we work hard to ensure the right artificial turf is chosen for your particular type of garden.

Unsafe For Kids

Artificial grass provides just as much of a soft and safe landing as natural grass. Aside from the sub-base, which is installed for safe drainage, artificial grass is installed on top of the same surface your natural grass was on (just simple soil), so its impact and shock absorbency is about the same. However, if you are still concerned you can always purchase a shock pad which will make for an even better landing should anyone slip over while out in the garden.

Hard to Maintain

No, it isn’t. It doesn’t take as much time or as much money as natural grass. For one, there’ll be no mowing, no chemicals, no water. This is good for the environment as well as good for your wallet. All artificial grass needs is a brush and mop every now and again. Mopping is nothing more than a bit of water and some washing-up liquid or other washing detergent. You can easily pick up any debris that’s come in from other gardens or from trees and shrubs in your garden yourself. And that is basically it, no hard work, no endless use of utilities and chemicals.
